International Yoga Day: A form of meditations and disciplined life

21st June celebrated as International Yoga Day in all over the world. The idea of yoga day was first proposed by honorable prime minister Sh. Narendra D. Modi in UN general assembly. He said “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” UN general assembly accepts this proposal and declares 21st June as international Yoga Day.

What is yoga?

The name of yoga which is derived from Sanskrit word “yogah ” which means to “yoke or to unite.” It is an art and science of healthy living. The science of yoga has its origin thousands of year ago, long before the first religion of belief systems were born. In the yogic lore, Shiva is seen as the first yogi or Adiyogi, and the first guru of adiyogi, and the first guru or Adi Guru. Yoga is a group of physical, mental and spiritual practice or disciplines which originated in ancient India. The original context of yoga spiritual development practices to train the body and mind to self observe and become aware of their own nature.

Types Of Yoga

There are mainly eight types of yoga which are as below.

  1. Vinyasa Yoga: Vinyasa means linking breath with a movement.
  2. Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga means eight limbs and encompasses a yogic lifestyle
  3. Iyengar Yoga: The emphasis on the practice is alignment in the asanas using breath control through Pranayam and use of props.
  4. Bikram Yoga: it is ninety minutes long and done in a room of 105 degrees Fahrenheit with 40% humidity.
  5. Jivamukti Yoga: This is a good blend of physical and spiritual exercise.
  6. Power Yoga: This is a more active approach to the traditional Hatha yoga
  7. Sivananda Yoga: This is a yoga system base of five yogic principals: proper breathing, relaxation, diet, exercise and positive thinking.
  8. Yin Yoga: It is a meditative practice that allows your body to become comfortable in a pose without doing any work.
